Prince Jay Oritsejolone Oghifo (DSCS, FICCON, FSCN) – Chairman

Prince Oghifo is a Chartered Chemist with specialty in environmental health, chemical security and safety. He is a widely experienced, professionally diverse and academically proficient Chemist and industry leader of over 30 years, traversing through top leadership positions in the government health sector, the energy sector, public service, private sector, political, contracting and administrative sectors.

An energetic, creative team builder with over 15 years of managing subsea operations, engineering and light construction services, Prince Oghifo is a proven executive with a demonstrated track record of successful deliveries, exceptional problem-solving and leadership skills in design, quality assurance and management of chemical and engineering services. Project responsibilities spans managing scientific survey, infrastructure inspection, diving operations, repairs and maintenance services for several local and foreign companies.

 

Prince Oghifo attended the strategic development international in USA where he received the certificate in organizational change for chief executives and also holds a certificate in strategies for chemical management from Swedish chemicals agency. Other prestigious certifications includes Certificate for Health management Training for Chief Executives from Liverpool Hope University, United Kingdom and Certificate for Management and Leadership from Lagos Business School (LBS) Nigeria.

 

His membership of reputable professional bodies spans Chemical Society of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria. Institute Of Public Analysis of Nigeria, America Chemical Society, Nigerian Environmental Society, National Association of Corrosion Engineers and American Hydrogen Association. His indelible works in these professional bodies earned him fellow of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (FICCON), Fellow of Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN) and the prestigious Distinguished Service Award of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (DSCS).

 

Prince Jay Oghifo has presented lead papers in his regional and international project team lead capacities for Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) campaigns and Globally Harmonized System (GHS) chemical labelling and classification. Recently, he was a Subject Matter Expert Panelist at chemical security and physical protection fundamentals for Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Nigeria and Security Initiatives for African Chemical Associations: The Roadmap to Responsible Care, Kenya.

 

He serves his country in many advisory capacities and has received numerous awards of recognition including the Primus Achievers’ Award of Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN). He is the erstwhile Registrar / Chief Executive Officer at the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria. His hobbies are speaking, travelling and reading.

Alhaji Buba Usman Shanu (B.Sc, M.Sc, FCSN, FICCON) – Secretary

Born 1965 in Gombe North East Nigeria, educated in FGC Jos, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Port Harcourt and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Universities, was a pioneer staff of Nigeria’s premiere fertilizer factory in Port Harcourt (NAFCON)

Served in various capacities including Quality control, Research and Development, purchase control, foreign procurement and finally as Head Haulage Control.

Currently a politician with 16 years experiences in political party management, including State Party Secretary of a ruling Party.

Engaged in several training seminars and workshops including but not limited to Team building, Small and Medium Scale enterprises and Chemical safety and Security.

Alhaji Buba Usman Shanu also serves on the National Executive Committee and National Council of Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN).

Now a large scale farmer managing about 350 Hectare farm land and grazing fields, educated in Chemistry and experienced in chemical fertilizer manufacturing together, his experiences in Chemical Safety has enabled him to seek and use green chemistry best practices in crop production, protection and Animal husbandry at a scale beyond subsistence. Practices including use of biodegradable fertilizers, compost, safe handling and use of herbicides and pesticides as well as storage systems devoid of chemicals.

Prof. Christian N Madu - Member

Prof. Christian N Madu is a leading scholar and expert in the areas of chemical safety and security management, sustainability management, disaster risk reduction, process change, and quality control. In 2017, he served as the Lead Subject Matter Expert to run training on chemical safety and security in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. This training took him through the entire country.

He has published extensively in his areas of research interests and his recent books include the Handbook of Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing 2nd edition (2022), Springer Nature; Enviromental Planning and Modeling (2022), MDPI; Handbook of Disaster Risk Reduction & Management (2017) and Handbook of Sustainability Management published in 2012 by  Imperial College Press and World Scientific Publishing, UK. He has written best seller books on sustainability management. His works are well cited and recently, he was ranked #1 researcher in Business and Management in Nigeria and 1000th in the World by research.com.

Prof. Madu served as editor of the International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management for 20 years. He was also the Topic Editor of Environmental Decision Making, Encyclopedia of Earth (National Society for Environment, USA) in 2006. He is on the editorial board of more than thirty academic journals and receives numerous unsolicited invitations to serve on different boards and dissertation committees around the world. He has also presented frequently to several agencies of the Federal Republic of Nigeria including NESREA, NEMA, Raw Material Research Council, Federal Ministry of Science & Technology, Federal Ministry of Labor & Productivity, and the Federal House of Representatives Committee on the Environment. He is a Fellow of Nigeria Environmental Society (NES), Nigeria Institute of Strategic Management (ISM), Chemical Society of Nigeria, Society of Professional Disaster Risk Managers, and Institute of Policy Management Development.

Prof. Madu has also consulted for several international organizations including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Con Edison, International Bottled Water Association, Drinking Water Research Foundation. He also initiated and ran the Process Change Initiative workshops for several universities including Yeshiva University, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Pace University, and the University of Nigeria.

Dr. Patrick Leonard Omokpariola - Member

Dr. Patrick Leonard Omokpariola is an accomplished academic and career chemist, possessing valuable experience in chemical regulation spanning more than 25 years in ensuring that chemicals are used in a safe and secured manner. Currently the Director, Chemical Evaluation and Research Directorate of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), he has profound expertise in chemical safety and security management, verification, and declaration of scheduled chemicals of several International Multilateral Chemical Conventions, chemical emergencies management, chemical disposal, chemical site security inspection, chemical safety, and security trainer etc. These experiences, gathered over the years have enabled him to effectively represent both the Agency and the Country in many national and international fora and have helped to develop several control measures for the safe and secure use of chemicals.

Apart from contributing to the processes and strategies which enhance regulatory standards in my country, his greater strengths are in his ability to understand and meet the needs of individuals and companies in the chemical industry. With clear understanding of the importance of chemical safety and security, he is able to provide a stimulating, cordial and consistent environment for all stakeholders involved with the safe use of chemicals globally. He is a bright, articulate, persuasive, and numerate individual with excellent communication skills, and ability to maximize potentials through successful development and implementation of well-researched and successful chemical regulatory initiatives.

He is multidisciplinary having done his Ph.D Research on Assessment of Micro organic nutrients in selected agro products sold in Nigeria Markets, coupled with OPCW Executive Program on Sound Chemical Management, in Port Louis – Mauritius and OPCW Article XI Workshop, in The Hague – The Netherlands. Further participation in advanced trainings include Counterterrorism Awareness Training by the USA African Command, in Abuja – Nigeria, Module 1- 3 Workshop on Strengthening Chemical Weapons Investigation in Nigeria – Organized by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory US, Chemical Security Vulnerability Assessment and Chemical Neutralization Remote Training Organized by CRDF Global USA, Roundtable on Security Initiatives for African Chemical Associations: The Roadmap to Responsible Care Naivasha – Kenya, Advanced training on Assistance and Protection against Chemical Attack, Beijing – China, Regional training on Assistant and Protection against Chemical Weapons, Tshuwane – South Africa, Analytical Skills Development Course, Helsinki – Finland and many others.

His many years of experience in the regulation and control of chemicals has led to the development of control measures for the sound management of chemicals in Nigeria and five other countries in Africa. He has also helped to initiate and enforce the implementation of chemical safety and security as part of the national policy on chemical management. Another key contribution is the setup of the National Chemical Laboratory at the Central Laboratory Complex Oshodi Lagos and initiated a comprehensive training Programme for the analysis of Chemical Weapon agents as well as their precursors and degradation products. He played a key role to develop the National Chemical and Biological Emergency Preparedness plan.

Dr. Omokpariola renowned subject matter expert in chemical safety and security that has led conference presentations and papers globally. Some of his recent notable works in circulation are Chemical Security – Layer of Protection and Role of Stakeholders, Chemical Security Risk Assessment and Mitigation Strategies, Controlled, Chemicals and their impact on the Ozone Layer, Chemical safety a tool for national development, Best practices for safety, handling, storage, and regulation of refrigerant gases, An overview of pests and integrated pest management system, An overview of the chemical weapons convention., An overview of chemical instrumentation and safety training, Chemical safety in the laboratory and Good laboratory practices.

He is a member of the national chemical risk and vulnerability assessment team. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria and the Chemical Society of Nigeria.

Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, SAN, FCIArb - Legal Adviser

Albert Akpomudje is a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a life member of the Body of Benchers, a body of legal practitioners of the highest distinction in Nigeria. He has served in various capacities both at the state and national level of the Nigerian Bar Association. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of Nigeria.
